Magic Lantern 1.5 Adds EGS, Spectrum, Stereo and More
DEMO ANIMATION, RETINA VERSION
This version of the animation will only work on a Retina display. If
you don't have that display card, you can't view this demo. If you do
have one, the player program is included in this archive so you can
view the animation by double-clicking its icon, or in the Shell, by
CD'ing to its directory and typing `playdiff <filename>'. To exit,
press any key other than the shift, ALT or Amiga keys.
This animation was created in 8 bit color on a 640 by 480 screen.
The only reason we didn't choose to distribute the 16 bit version was
the size of the file (1.6 megs).
Here's what it's all about:
Terra Nova Development of Ventura, California has released an important
revision of its popular 24 bit animation program, Magic Lantern.
Magic Lantern is a versatile animation compressor which reads IFF files,
assembling them into animations for a variety of displays with compres-
sion options that allow users to optimize an animation for fast playback
or small file size, with several settings in between.
Version 1.5 of Magic Lantern adds support for the EGS retargetable
graphics system, giving users the ability to create windowed animations
in 8, 16 and 24 bits of color. Additionally the program now supports
GVP's Spectrum card for full screen animations in 8, 16 and 24 bits of
color.
Magic Lantern will now add stereo sound samples to animations; other
enhancements to the software include faster double buffering under
Workbench 3.x, a streamlined user interface, and the ability to add a
defined range of frames to an animation - making it a simple matter to
create an animation using every second or third picture in a directory.
With this update Magic Lantern now supports realtime animation on native
Amiga displays and Retina, Picasso II, Opalvision, GDA, EGS and Spectrum
displays as well.
In March, 1994, Amiga World said:
`The quality is amazing. Generating my own animation sequences on a
68030 equipped Amiga, I was impressed by the fluid movement and smooth
playback. It looked as good, if not better, than most true color Targa
animations produced by high-end PCs.'
The program is available from your local dealer, or can be ordered for
the list price of $95.00 US from Terra Nova Development, P. O. Box 2202,
Ventura, California 93002-2202. Orders from within California should
add $6.88 sales tax; foreign orders should be paid in US funds, drawn on
a US bank.
The upgrade to version 1.5 is free to registered users.

The sound effect in the demo animation is lifted (by the artist's permis-
sion) from Dinah LeHoven's `Love for Love', a recording of celtic harp
and song. For the other 12,749 notes*, you could order the recording for
$12 US (cassette) or $17 US (CD) from:
Swanharp Music, Department T, P. O. Box 27456 Los Angeles, CA 90027
...paid in US funds, including postage and applicable taxes.
* Okay, I have no idea how many other notes there are, but you know what
I mean.
